University Council

The main tasks of the University Council include:

• appointment of the full-time members of the Rectorate in a joint search committee with the Senate
• decision-making on the medium-term structural and development plan of the university: here, for example, decisions are made on the allocation of professorships to the different institutes etc., on the establishment, merging or closing down of institutes and other institutions
• decisions on building projects and plans
• supervision of finances, decision-making on the draft budget; approval of the annual financial statements
• approval of inter-university cooperation, university contracts and agreements
• critical review of the annual report of the Rector, discharge of the members of the Rectorate

The University Council of Ludwigsburg University of Education consists of 11 members:

• 6 external
• 5 internal

In addition, a representative of the Ministry of Science and Art attends the meetings in an advisory capacity.

The members are appointed by the Minister of Science for a period of 3 years on the recommendation of a selection committee consisting of members of the Senate and the University Council. In the selection process, Ludwigsburg University of Education makes every effort to ensure that the external members come from different areas of society whose experience can be useful for the university. The internal members should also represent the different faculties and groups of university employees in their entirety. Nevertheless, there is no group proportional representation; members are appointed as individuals, not as stakeholders, and their work is committed to the best interests of the university as a whole.

The University Council meets at least four times a year. Its meetings are not open to the public.
