The Institute of Educational Science at Ludwigsburg University of Education focuses its research and teaching on matters pertaining to the education and upbringing of children and young people, adult education, and vocational education. These encompass fundamental anthropological questions, social frameworks, and developments, as well as aspects of educational organisation and discourses across various academic disciplines. The Institute explores these topics with diverse thematic focuses, examining them from basic, reflective, and application-oriented perspectives through historical, theoretical, and empirical methods.
The Institute comprises six departments: general education, early childhood education, adult and vocational education, media education, pedagogy, and didactics of primary education, including primary general science (‘Sachunterricht’) and school pedagogy. As the largest institute at Ludwigsburg University of Education, it hosts approximately 50 full-time and 30 adjunct lecturers actively participating in the university's six bachelor and twelve master's degree programs. Internal and international interdisciplinary collaborations exist, such as with developmental psychology, sociology, and cultural studies. Additionally, cross-institutional cooperation within the region includes partnerships with teacher training universities in the Stuttgart area through the Professional School of Education (PSE), Ludwigsburg Protestant University of Applied Sciences (EHL), and numerous other collaborators in academic, school, and various fields of activity.
